Theridion curassavicum
Case
Man,
70 years old
Again a man with vertigo. You can see him here.
A : Tell me, what's the matter with you?
P :
I feel as if I'm drunk. It feels as if I have a cold inside.
A : You are dizzy, aren't you?
P : I can't tolerate noise, for example, when
the door slams when somebody enters. It goes straight to my head.
WP : He can't hear well and yet he can't
tolerate noise.
A : You don't hear well?
P : No, but now I have this pain in my head, I hear worse than before.
WP : Actually he doesn't hear anything on the
left side, only a little bit on the right side.
A : How long have you had this vertigo?
WP : (to her husband) How long have you had this?
P : I can't stoop
either. When I'm stooping I become dizzy.
WP : (to her husband) How long have you had this?
P : Three weeks.
WP : Even longer. I wanted to send him earlier, but he didn't want to come. Now he asked to come himself. I think it has something to do with the cold.
A : But he had this already before his cold.
P : Yes, yes, I had this vertigo even before.
A : And when you go for a walk?
P : Then I have to
take a cane with me so that I can keep upright.
WP : In 1988 he was in the hospital in Hasselt a few times.
A : Did it start then?
WP : Yes.
P : I can't drive with a wheel barrow, doctor.
WP : First we thought it was because of the pigeons. We gave them away and then it was clearly better. (to her husband) After you gave the pigeons away it was better.
P : Yes, yes.
A : How is he doing now? Does he cough anymore?
WP : Yes, he still does, at the moment he is coughing again.
(to her husband) Are you still coughing?
P : Yes.
WP : He has been well all the time. After he gave away the pigeons he hardly coughed. But a fortnight ago, three weeks ago he started coughing again.
A : When I slam the door ...
P : Oh je, it goes straight to my head, I could become insane, it hurts so much.
A : Where? Your whole head?
P : No, only here, on the sides (points to the temples).
WP : As I already told you, he was doing very well, but now this cough seems very strange to me also. I think it is a cold which got stuck. And his hot-temper has also been better for a while.
A : Can he sit still?
P : It's not that bad.
WP
: He can't watch television a long time, maybe half an hour, and then he has to
do something.
P
: It's better to wear out than to rust
out.
A : If you hear this kind of noise (is
knocking with his pencil on his desk)...
P : I can't stand that noise, it makes my head ache.
A : And yet he has impaired hearing.
WP : Yes, that's why
I mentioned it.
P : When three or four people are talking I can't sit with them.
WP : If the neighbors are talking with each other, one talks then another, you know this, but he can't tolerate it. It is strange, but he has had this a long time. Maybe now it is worse because of the cold.
A : And when you close your eyes?
P : It is all right.
A : Can you stand upright?
P : I can't.
WP : (to her husband) Stand over there and close your eyes.
P : I can't, I can't.
WP : Try it. (The
patient rises and is staggering.)
WP : Close your eyes.
P : Oh je.
(Patient is staggering more with his eyes closed.)
WP : OK, sit down again.
P : It isn't a trivial thing in my head, is it? I can't go outside in the dark.
A : If you move your head do you have vertigo? Does the vertigo become worse?
P : Yes.
A : Do you tolerate the light?
WP : Light? Yes, he does.
P : Yes, it's all right.
A : What do you have with this cold? How is the discharge from your nose?
P :
Always green mucus.

A : Does it have an offensive smell?
WP : No, I haven't noticed anything.
A : Do you see the discharge from his nose? Does he often blow his nose?
WP : Yes, very often.
P : Maybe three, four handkerchiefs a day.
A :
The discharge is yellow, not like water.
P : No.
WP : He also has difficulties with his stool. Before he didn't have this, but now he does.
A : Do you have abdominal pain?
P : Abdominal pain? No.
WP : But he is constipated. Since he has been in Hasselt.
A : Does your skin itch sometimes?
WP : Do you have itching sometimes? Do you have to scratch?
P : No, no.
A : And when you are sitting in the car? If you have to drive the car here?
WP : He can drive the
car normally.
A : And when you have to drive along with somebody else?
WP : It's no problem. He can drive everywhere. For example, when he goes shopping sometimes his neighbor drives him in his car.
A : How is your appetite?
WP : It's good.
P : Yes, good.
A : Does he like to eat fruit?
WP : He doesn't eat so much fruit, maybe an apple.
A : Only apples?
WP : Now and then an orange, but seldom.
(to her husband) You eat oranges only now and then?
P : Yes, now and then.
A : Also bananas?
P : Not so much, but I eat half an apple every evening.
A : Do you think that time is passing too quickly or too slowly?
WP : I don't know. (to her husband) What do you think? Does time pass too quickly or too slowly?
P : Sometimes I'm surprised when I go inside it is already that late.
WP : He is always in a hurry.
A : So time passes quickly.
P : I get up about 7:00 or 8:00 o'clock and I have breakfast about 9:00 o'clock. Sometimes I have breakfast until 10:00 o'clock, time passes so quickly.
WP : Does it have something to do with his cold that he doesn't understand what I say?
A : I think it is a problem with his hearing.
WP : That's right.
A : Does he take medicines?
WP : No, nothing. Only now and then maybe an aspirin effervescent tablet.
P : Yes, when my head is bad (is holding his
hands on the temples)...
Before I took medicines but everything became worse. Much worse!
A : All right, I will take care that you are doing better.
He also has coryza. This must disappear with the same remedy.
Another
symptom is that he looks at his watch constantly and it is always too late.
This means that time passes too quickly. This is clear.
MIND,TIME,passes too quickly : Atro., coca., Cocc., elaps., op., sulph., ther., thuj.
FEEDBACK (July 23, 1990)
A : Tell me, how did the vertigo develop?
P : It improved very much. I get an attack only now and then.
A : How is it compared to before?
WP : (to her husband) You must say how it is compared to before.
P : A lot better.
A : Much better?
P : (is nodding)
WP : The cough is also gone.
P : Yesterday I felt a little bit strange, and then I had an attack again.
A : You were watching the pigeons again?
P : Yes, I went to my neighbor to watch the pigeons again.
A : And when you are watching the pigeons you have it again.
P : Yes. But otherwise I feel well.
A : How is your cough?
WP : The cough has improved, except in the morning when he gets up. Also the blowing has become better since he has been here. Before he came here I had to wash 25 handkerchiefs every week, and now less, maybe 10. When he came here he had a cold.
A : Yes, he had a cold. But you didn't give him anything else?
WP : No, we didn't do anything for it.
A : All right.
P : My cough has also improved.
WP : Yes, he feels much better, otherwise we wouldn't say so. And he didn't take any other medicine, he doesn't tolerate it! We always come here when there is something wrong.
A : How is the pain in your back when you are walking around?
WP : He still had pain in his back, and I gave him VOLTAREN. Is he allowed to take it? This medicine doesn't do any harm. He had it only once, but since then he doesn't complain anymore.
A : He also had a dry nose. How is it?
WP : (to her husband) Is your nose still so dry?
P : Pardon?
WP : Is your nose still dry?
P : No, I'm satisfied.
WP : He is doing much better.
P : Yes, I feel much better (is rising).
WP : And by character he is also better. He can keep quiet much better.
P : (Is still standing before his chair): You see!
WP : (to her husband) Close your eyes.
P : (is walking with his eyes closed in the front of the desk to and fro)
A : It's good. Beautiful, beautiful.
P : (opens his eyes and is looking questioning to Dr. A. Geukens)
A : Yes, fine. You can sit again.
WP : He is really doing much better, also concerning his character. In the past when he had pain all these kinds of things he was easily irritated.
A : Now he is much more quiet?
WP : Yes. At that time he couldn't sit still, he went outside about 100 times a day. At noon he sleeps about 1 hour on the sofa, whereas before he got up every 10 minutes. And in the evening he could watch television for maybe half an hour, whereas now he can watch a whole film. But with the other things he still might go outside three or four times in between.
A :
So he is still rather restless.
WP : But it is better. I don't know whether you can change this at all.
P : I'm very satisfied.
A : So on May 18 you received a tablet. That was two months ago.
WP : Pardon? Already two months ago? It can't be true.
A : Yes, he was here on May 18. I'll give you a tablet in a tube to take home and whenever the complaints return you take it.
What was the remedy?
Audience: Theridion.
A : Yes, Theridion with pain in the head from noises. Theridion is also a tubercular remedy, in phthisis and so on.
HEAD,PAIN,noise,from : Acon., agar., anac., anan., ang., arg-n., arn., ars-i., ars., bapt., bar-c., bar-m., Bell., bor., bry., bufo., cact., calad., calc-s., Calc., cann-s., caps., carb-an., carb-v., caust., chin-a., chin., cic., cocc., coff., colch., con., ferr-p., gels., graph., hell., hyos., ign., iod., kali-ar., kali-bi., kali-p., kali-s., lac-c., lac-d.,lach., lyc., lyss., mag-m., manc., merc-i-f., merc., mur-ac., Nat-a., nat-c., nat-p., Nit-ac., nux-v., ph-ac., phos., ptel., sang., sanic., sil., sol-n., spig., stann.,stict., tab., Ther., yuc., zinc.
I have known this man since 1983 and since then I have known he needed Theridion. In 1986 suddenly he started coughing and I repeated Theridion. Afterwards they didn't call me, they went to the hospital. Then he came back from the hospital, after antibiotics and all these things and he had these attacks of vertigo again.
Remember
that Tuberculinum follows Theridion when Theridion doesn't cure the bronchitis.
Tubercular remedies mean that in connection
with this remedy one day you have to give Tuberculinum. It's important to know,
you have to think of it.
ANOTHER CASE
- Who knows the
key-note of Theridion?
- Answer : "Sensitive to noises."
- A : Yes, they are sensitive to noises, but
what is more typical?
- Answer : "Pain in the teeth."
- A : Yes, pain in the teeth.
- They feel noises as a pain in the bones and
in the teeth.
- Besides it is a very important remedy in vertigo.
- Where do we find in the Repertory the rubric for lung tuberculosis?
- Under chest "phthisis, florida" on page 879.
